I read about an interesting fact a while ago about why Sailor Moon Stars didn't release outside Japan, especially America... The reason is because Sailor Starlight gender... They have confusing gender, and some people said they do trans gender because when in human form they're guys but when they become Sailor Senshi they're girls... Naoko Takeuchi (Sailor Moon's mangaka) actually made them pure girls, they just cross dressing in human form, but in anime they change in to guy and girls... It made Naoko upset of course because based on Naoko statement, only girl can be Sailor Senshi... The change reason is because the producer need more emotion and built relationship between Usagi and Seiya (Sailor Star Fighter) so they make Sailor Starlight are guys in human form... Then because they are originally female so they transform in to girl when they become Sailor Senshi... Based on the story, for not making their gender weird, the reason they become guy because they need to find their princess, so to attract more girl (they believe their princess disguise to be one of their fans) they disguise their selves as guys...
I thought, the reason is make sense, but still some countries didn’t tolerate that… For me Sailor Starlight didn’t change their sex, they just use similar disguise power like another Sailor Senshi, but people did’t get it, they think Sailor Starlight do transgender lol… A lot of Sailor Moon fans, especially in America, get mad about that… They already angry because in English dub of Sailor Moon series, they change the story a bit, like Haruka (Sailor Uranus) and Michiru (Sailor Neptune) relationship… In English dub, Haruka and Michiru are cousin instead of lover like in the original story… I first notice this fact when I watch Sailor Moon series in youtube, some of the viewer who usually watch Sailor Moon in English dub get confuse because in that youtube channel (with English sub) it show the true story… They confuse why Haruka and Michiru flirt each other lol…
Imao, it just an anime show, so let it be… If they wanna prevent that from kids just simple put a parental advisory sign because basically Sailor Moon isn’t for kids, it’s for teens and adult, especially the manga…
